Chapter I: Drafting and Rewriting. Most people meet Claude by asking it to write something, reading the result, and deciding it isn’t quite right — then either using it anyway or throwing it out. Both come from the same mistake: treating the first response as the answer instead of a draft. Tell me about something you actually need to write this week, and let’s do a real one together.

A heads-up to my team about a new deploy process starting Monday. First pass: “Effective Monday, our deployment pipeline will incorporate an additional staging verification step prior to production release, intended to reduce the incidence of post-deployment defects.”
Claude
That’s accurate, but it buries the one thing your team needs: what changes for them Monday. Try naming the lever before you ask for a revision — “tighter, cut it by a third, and lead with what’s different starting Monday.” That’s emphasis, one of three levers most revisions pull: length, tone, or emphasis. Naming which one gets you a better draft than “make it better.”
