Using the MCP Tutor connector
What it is
MCP Tutor is a guided AI-literacy curriculum that runs inside Claude. It is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) connector — not a separate app. Once connected, Claude can fetch chapter content, track your progress, and record your practice (“demonstration”) attempts. The teaching and assessment happen in your conversation with Claude.
Connect it to Claude
- In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
- Enter the connector URL:
https://mcp.mcptutor.com - Claude opens a sign-in window. Sign in with your MCP Tutor account and approve the requested access (read your progress and chapter content; record your completions and demonstration attempts). There is no token to copy.
The same URL works on Claude.ai, Claude Desktop, and Claude Code — each uses the standard OAuth sign-in. Everyone in an organization uses the same URL and is identified by their own sign-in.
The training flow
Ask Claude to “start my training in MCP Tutor.” From there:
- Start. Claude finds the chapter you should work on next.
- Learn. Claude retrieves the chapter and teaches it in its own words, answering your questions.
- Demonstrate. Claude presents the chapter’s demonstration prompt; you respond.
- Assess. Claude evaluates your response against the chapter rubric and records the attempt — passing you, or giving specific feedback and inviting a retry.
- Advance. On a pass, Claude records completion and unlocks the next chapter.
You can ask “where am I?” at any time to see your progress across all chapters.
Playbooks
Alongside the curriculum, MCP Tutor offers playbooks — saved, step-by-step processes Claude walks you through to reach a finished product (for example, shipping a React site to Vercel). Ask Claude “what playbooks do I have?” to list them, or name one to run it.
- Repeatable by design. Every run starts from step 1. Playbooks never resume where a previous conversation left off — run one as often as you like.
- Step by step. Claude presents one step at a time with its instructions and an optional “done when” check, then records it and moves to the next when you say you’re done.
- Never a gate. The “done when” checks are informative only — completing a step never requires them to pass.
You’ll see the built-in template playbooks plus any you own; your own playbooks can be created and edited on the web dashboard.
For managers
Managers and admins can ask Claude for team progress (each member’s completion and current chapter) and for a detailed view of an individual member’s progress and demonstration history — limited to their own organization. The same information is available on the web dashboard, which also lets admins edit the curriculum.
Privacy & data
MCP Tutor only reads and writes your training records. It does not access your Claude memory, chat history, or files. See the Privacy Policy for details on what is collected, how it is stored, and who processes it.
