How MCP Tutor works

The premise is simple: you don’t get good at Claude by reading about it — you get good at it by using it, with something in the room that teaches, remembers, and checks real work. Here’s what happens once you connect it.

MCP Tutor runs entirely inside Claude — the desktop app or Claude.ai on the web. This is not a separate learning platform; it is a connector that gives Claude access to the curriculum, your playbooks, and your progress records.

You use the same Claude you already have — the curriculum, playbooks, and practice tools all happen in conversation, the way Claude is meant to be used.

Also works with ChatGPT and Gemini, if that’s what you or your team use instead.

Requires Claude Pro, Team, or Enterprise subscription, or the free tier with connector access enabled.

Sign up — free, no team required

Create an account and you get one connector URL. That’s it — there’s no seat count, no credit card, and nothing to configure before you can use the free tier yourself.

The URL is: mcp.mcptutor.com

There’s no token to copy and no separate password — you authorize by signing in through the connector flow. If you later want to bring your team along, an admin invites members by email and everyone signs in the same way — see MCP Tutor for Teams.

Add the connector in Claude

In Claude, go to Settings → Connectors and add the URL. This takes about thirty seconds. Once added, the connector stays active — you don’t need to re-add it.

The connector gives Claude read access to curriculum, playbook, and knowledge content, and write access to your own progress and playbook runs. It cannot read anyone else's data, access other systems, or take any other action.

Say what you want to do

There’s no separate app to open — just tell Claude what you’re after:

“Start my training in MCP Tutor” — Claude fetches your current chapter, teaches it in its own words, then presents a demonstration prompt. You respond, Claude evaluates it against the chapter rubric, and either passes you or gives specific feedback and invites a retry.
“Run one of my playbooks” — Claude lists what you have and walks you through the one you pick, step by step, from the beginning every time.
“Start a sales roleplay” — Claude picks up the call in character, using the scenario you built.

Ask “where am I?” any time to see progress across all of it.

The important distinction

All teaching happens inside Claude.
This website is for content and progress only.

MCP Tutor does not run any AI. It is a thin server that stores curriculum, playbook, and knowledge content, and reads and writes your progress records. The actual instruction — the explanation, the dialogue, the assessment — is all Claude. That means it scales with Claude's capability and never goes stale.
